Revolution Day (Mexico City)

Country forums / Mexico / Mexico

Hello Mexico forum,

I will be in DF for several days next week, including November 20, Revolution Day. I was wondering is this just a bank holiday where people enjoy a three day weekend, or are there events, parades, celebrations, specific neighborhoods, etc. that you would recommend I plan to take part in for the holiday?

Thanks!

I celebrated Revolution Day in Santiago Apoala, Oaxaca last year, by happy coincidence. I just followed the childrens band around town and shouted Viva Mexico whenever they stopped. Im afraid that won`t help you though. If all else fails, just check with the nearest tourist kiosk in CDMX (not DF anymore) once you arrive for the latest info. No doubt the Zocalo and the Plaza de la Republica will be involved.

In Mexico City, there's typically been a military and civic parade. The observance was moved to the third Monday in November, a decade ago. This year, however, the actual day, the 20th, is the third Monday. It's a "Puente", a 3-day weekend and banks will be closed on the 20th. A federal holiday. The parade has historically run down Paseo de la Reforma from Chapultepec Park to the Zocalo. I've found the area bordering the Zona Rosa ... to be a good spot to observe the parade.

It's also gonna be this, in case you're curious:

(not much effect on visitors, but you'll see it mentioned literally everywhere and the crowds will be extra throngy for it)
