Reliable and safe short term accomodation

Country forums / Western Europe / Austria

Hi everyone,

I am planning on doing a winter semester (study abroad) for 3.5 weeks at the University of Vienna in February 2013. I am wanting to sort out my options regarding accommodation from now. I am from Australia and being on the other side of the world makes it quite difficult as I can't inspect property and don't really know how the rental thing works in Austria. I am worried about the possible scams online regarding payment for the property. I am looking at all types of accommodations just to make it easier in comparing different options. I want something that isn't too far from the university so I can be familiar with the surroundings. Walking distance or a few stops with the train is okay with me in terms of the distance.I definitely need a furnished place as I am going to be staying short term. I would really appreciate if any locals or people with past experience can help me this. If you could give me some names for accommodation (that is trustworthy and reliable with photos of the place that is available online) that would be awesome!

Thanks in advance!!

Don't worry. errr No worries, mayte.

There will be bulletin boards and your school may have a list.
You'll probly share a flat with other nationalities.

Its part of the education. We're all just folks.

I don't think that's spam, Billy. The guy gave some useful information.

3

I agree with bjd. It doesn't look like spam to me and it does not push a specific website for its own benefit.

4

A fine line maybe (there are links to prices etc. on the site), but OK.

I couldn't write for Code Nast because I don't use their type of advertiser. I'm a pensión/hostel man, m'self.

I'ts a pity that my sincere suggestions were really deleted and reported as Spam. In future no links. But how will this help?

@Administrators: As I'm new please give me some examples how to do it in future, as I'm forced to answer on touristic questions about Austria from my company from Mon to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CET. Let me give you the e-mail address: holiday@austria.info (I hope the Mail is not a Spam). I know that there are the general guidelines on the website.

@dbarca: All the best for you in searching an accomodation in Vienna

Well - whether others saw it as spam (as I did) or not, the modr's agreed it was.

Billy, I still think it was not SPAM, but good and sensible information for the OP. That the moderators agreed on it being spam, discredits the moderators! This is most certainly true if two regulars on this forum both think it was not spam. It should have made the moderators think before they deleted it. I feel the poster is rightly angry about it.

No big deal.

"pray about it"

Don't worry, I'm not angry. Just slightly confused. I'll try to to my best not beeing seen as Spam in the future.

Life's to short to be angry over such a small issue. Have a look here - it may help you to understand....
