RECORD NUMBER OF TREKKERS VISITING K-2 DURING 2004

Interest forums / Trekking & Mountaineering

2004 marks the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of K-2 by Italians in 1954.

K-2 is the second highest mountain at 8611m and the greatest challange
the climbers.

K-2 is situated in the Karakoram mountain range which is situated between the
Himalayas and the Pamirs.

The trek to K-2 base camp is the most spectacular mountain trek in the world
with fantastic views of great mountains. Concordia at the confluence of
Godwin Austin glacier and Baltoro glacier is the most spectacular part of this
trek where four great mountains over 8000 meter stand close to each other.

With the cease fire on Siachin glacier and peace with India trekkers who remained
away from this area for the past three years are returning in large numbers to
visit K-2 base camp on its 50th anniversary.

The first man of this season to reach K-2 area was Dr. Ulf Riede from Zurich.
