Hi, After 2 weeks volunteering in Accra in August, myself and 2 friends want to stay on and experience Africa (Ghana, Togo, Benin). As we only have 2 weeks we were thinking of doing it with a tour company (driver & guide) to maximise our time there. Would anyone know of companies / operators who come recommended? Thanks for your time, Vinnie
I believe Kumuka Worldwide have started trips in that area. Dragoman also run short trips out there. Look them up online and feedback re both can be found on this site as well as many others. Have fun! Tania. | 1
If possible, get a multiple entry visa for Ghana before you go ($160) and do some research regarding getting visas for Togo and Benin. It may be cheaper to get the visas after you arrive, but it may also cause delays. It is also possible that a tour company will take care of this for you. My personal preference would be to not take a tour because it makes me feel separated from the experience. Also because you won't be traveling alone you will be even safer if you decide to do it without a tour. I can say travel in Ghana is very safe, but I do not think that Togo and Benin are as safe, but I can't really say as I have not been to those two countries. Given that you will be in Accra for some time before traveling on, I would not commit to anything until you are there, other than at least knowing the process for visas. | 2
Another tour operator in Ghana is Easy Track Ghana . They specialize in individual, customized tours within Ghana and will designed a tour just for your interests. They can be reached directly from inside Ghana at 027 665 7036 | 3
Check out Jolinaiko Eco Tours. I'm planning on doing a trip with them in September. The owner and his wife are well known at the Dutch Embassy, if you want to get a reference. They have answered my emails promptly and professionally so far. They advertise tours on their website for all three of the countries you want to visit, but three countries in two weeks is too ambitious, even with a four wheel drive. You'll spend all your time on the road and won't get to see much. I'm doing a two week tour of only Ghana, and it's not enough time to see everything I would like. There isn't much to see in Togo. The infrastructure isn't as good as Ghana, and there are no real tourist facilities outside of Lome. | 4
