Recieving post whilst travelling?Interest forums / Gap Year & Round the World Travel
Hi Guys- we are currently travelling around Australia and with Christmas coming up we are lucky enough that our friends and family want to send us parcels however we have no fixed address. I am currently looking into a PO BOX with the post office which I would probably get in Darwin as I know we are heading there next. Does anyone have any advice- its a bit of a bizarre question I understand! haha
Not as commonly used as it used to be but still available is "Post Restante" in Australia. This means you can get mail or parcels sent to Post Offices to collect with photo ID. Mail is held for 1 month by the post office. When I had a job working in the Government Welfare, a lot of the homeless in my city of Adelaide had their mail sent to the Post office in the City under this method so they could still get Government Welfare payments. This will be available at the Darwin GPO, the address is 48 Cavenagh Street, They address it by putting your name first then write POST RESTANTE under your name and then the Post offices address under that. It is very safe and secure method for your friends and family to use. | 1
I send parcels to my daughter in Brisbane and now just send them Poste Restante to her local post office. Think ( and only think) they have to hold mail for one month. | 2
I used "Post Restante" successfully in Asia. | 3
wow thanks so much this is a great solution! After a bit of online research we are giving friends and family the C/O Darwin GPO address and hoping that is successful :) | 4
