Rainy Season in Columbia and VeneszuelaCountry forums / South America / Venezuela
I know the book says dry season is through April. So does that mean that it will start getting rather rainy by 2nd week in May throughout VZ? True of Merida? of Los Roques on the Caribean coast (the archipelago)?
I really hope the book says the thruth for the rainy season because we suffer from a serious drougth! The islands and Merida are always favored by rains but here on the north eastern coast of Venezuela, it's dry as a bone for 6 months now. Ferries for Margarita and then for Los Roques are affordable. You can camp on Los Roques yet, the price they ask for a spot is almost as high as for a room...so I would think it twice! If you want really to have a camping like experience, sleep in a hammock under a roof, you'll be happy and it's very affordable! | 1
Hi Gary, The dry season in Vzla technically ends in June, nevertheless, sun abounds all year round. Rainy season: June - December/ Dry season: January - June (even though we had a rather long rainy season this year) That's one great thing about living in the tropics. Even when its the rainy season one can escape to the beach and more often than not enjoy great sunny days with some occassional showers. Ferry is indeed the cheapest way to get to Margarita. You may take it from Pto La Cruz (Barcelona) or Cumana. You can get the Conferry or Cacique Express in Pto La Cruz or Conferry in Cumana. The fastest Ferry ride is approx. 2 hours long from Pto La Cruz. There are some slw ferries which take 4 or even up to 6 hours. As for camping. I would stronlgy advise against it in Margarita. Not safe! As for Los Roques you may on the Gran Roque and on Crasqui, an island of the Gran Roque; however, you have to think about where to leave your stuff when going to the beach, food, santitation and permits, which you have to get from the National Gaurd upon arrival to Los Roques. Travel safe! All the best, Thomas | 2
