| iik14:17 UTC04 Jun 2007 | On their site, I read that carrying bicycles is free of charge if they are withing the weight limit (20 kg for flights from EU, economy). The alowable box dimensions (140x30x80 cm) are a bit low. Has anyone experience with this airline? Also, are there bike boxes available at Perth airport?
Thanks!

Unsurprisingly their boxes are accepted, but don't know what size they are. I ride 26 and had to remove my front wheel. You may be lucky and they may supply you with tape, but best to buy a roll before. One problem is that the bike box weighs nearly 4kg!!!! A nice easy ride out to the airport from the city, mainly on bike paths - route is in the LP Oz bike book - look it up in a bookstore.

The bike boxes they supply are huge (IMO) (front wheel peddles, seat and handlebar usually needs removal but that is all). They should be OK if you have some gear to stuff in them but other than that you will need to pad your bike or it bounce around in transit.

Far bigger then a bike shop box which holds a bike and not much else. Their box, used one once, held bike, all travel gear, including camping stuff,,, and every thing still rattled in the box. Go figure. Box was way expensive, perhaps covers excess charges. Mine was way over, and they didn't bat an eye over it. Figure it was worth it. Was their box. How could they argue.

| simonhill16:36 UTC05 Jun 2007 | Just to clarify, the $30 is for the box, not a charge for the bike.
The first time I was made to use the box by the check in staff, after presenting my nicely bubblewrapped bike (bloody Aussies). However, on that trip, it being in a box meant I could take it on the London Underground in peak period from Heathrow instead of some other very expensive rail link and that saved me more than the £14 the box cost, so no worries (good on ya Aussies).
The second time I chose to have one of their expensive, but strong, boxes as it meant I could ride right up to the terminal.
