public transport in Iceland

Hi all,
I am planning a trip to Iceland on early Sept. for 10 days, I don't know if I can take bus go around the lsiand in Sept.becase I found some of the bus schudle only until 31 Aug.

you can go all around the island in the first half of september, but I doubt if this will give you the most of it if you only have 10 days to spend. You probably have a reason to go in September, but you are gonna miss out on quite some interesting things because the inner country is closed by then. Still, there is plenty to see.

These are the buses to go around the island. It will take you 3 full days. All buses go daily. Buses on the east side of the island between Egilstadir and Höfn only go until Sept. 15:

Buses in Iceland are really easy to use, no need for tickets or seat reservations in advance, and very reliable. They are NOT cheap.
Don't forget the option to fly inside Iceland, it can save you some time when you only have ten days. When booked in advance it can be ridiculously cheap (5000ISK to cross the island), way cheaper than bus travel, but you might be a bit too late to get the best deals. If I were you, I would spend some days up north in and near Akureyri (Husavik, Dettifoss, Myvatn) and some days in the south (golden triangle, reykjavik, plenty to see around it) and forget about going around. But that's just a suggestion.

Some of the interior roads can close in late August or early September, but usually quite a lot remain open until late in the month. But certainly the bus services crossing the interior stop at the end of August.

But plenty of tourists go to Iceland without going to the interior and have a lovely time, it depends what you like/want.

Even in the off-season it is only a short gap in the east that is unbridged by buses, but hitching over that gap, especially in the off-season, would not be difficult.

You can rent a car as well.. I used http://gotraveliceland.com/ for all my tours when i went and they were excellent. Took us to many places that other tour companies don't even take you

I'm curious about your planning, because I am trying to organize a trip in late August/early September, and am finding the same difficulties. Going the tour group route or bus route? Any interest in renting a car for part of your journey???

There are numerous internal domestic flights between Reykjavik, Akureyri, Geysir, Egilsstadir and other major cities with good domestic network of airports in Iceland. Iceland has no railway, tram, subway or light rail services so flight seems the good option.

Numerous? - well perhaps R-Ak and R-Eg go more than once a day. I don't think there are any "other cities" in Iceland outside Reykjavik. I don't think there is a regular scheduled flight to Geysir, which is not even a village. And since most internal flights in Iceland have Reykjavik at one end of them, it isn't necessarily a very useful way of getting around from place to place.
