Price Update on Hiking Karisimbi & BisokeCountry forums / Africa / Rwanda
I was recently in Rwanda and discovered that the prices of hiking in Volcano Natl. Park have skyrocketed (at least for Karisimbi) and I just want to give a heads up to anyone interested. Karisimbi - a two day climb - is now a whopping $400 and Bistoke - a day climb- is $75. Transport (from pretty much any agency or hotel) to the park is $80 for the car for the day. The fees above include a guide, not sure about a porter and I'm pretty sure there are no meals involved. If you're considering doing Karisimbi for $400, I would recommend going over to Goma, DRC and hiking an ACTIVE volcano for $200 - Nyriagongo. It was fantastic! (and very cold)
hello, Absolutely the rate to hike is Bisoke for $75 + $80 for a car, but i've choosen this option because the Niyaragongo volcano was closed mid mars, can you confirm that the trek are now allowed? and detail for the visas cheers | 1
I got all of my info from the LP Thorn Tree. If you want extra confirmation - I suggest contacting Go Congo Tours. I was in touch with them before I arrived and they were very helpful!! You may also contact the ranger's office at the base of the volcano, but I am not quite sure how to get in touch with them. It may be online or in the LP DRC detour section. Also, I suggest staying at the Shu-Shu Guesthouse in Goma. As for visas, I am an American, so all I had to do was pay $35 at the border (between Rwanda and DRC) and I got back into Rwanda with a new stamp (no visa necessary for people from the U.S. and several other countries). Enjoy! | 2
