Price of Apple computers and related Mac goods in China?

Country forums / North-East Asia / China

Does anyone know where I can find a rough guide of prices online somewhere? And how do they compare to the US? thanks.

From what I've heard, genuine Apple products purchased from official Apple outlets seem to be just as pricey, if not more so, than those sold in western countries.

You can check the apple hong kong site for prices.

2

In mainland China they are significantly more expensive than in the US or HK. Many people get firends to pick stuff up when they're in HK or abroard.

Send a PM to Ruth in Canada. She lived in China for years and is an Apple user.

no need to send a PM to Ruth, I'll answer it. I live in Shanghai and am typing this on a MacBook purchased in the US (but Ive been to some of the Mac shops here) - Apple products are significantly more expensive in China than in Hong Kong which is slightly more expensive than the US. I'd say Chinese prices are anywhere from 10-20% more expensive.

Funny you should ask. I'm in Beijing and just visited the local Apple dealer a few days ago (branch of a group also with stores in HK). Prices for a MacBook Pro 15.4" are RMB 19,000 and 23,500 (depending on spec), and the 17" RMB 26,500. MacBooks are ranging from RMB 10,500 to 14,000. This is about 20-25% more than in the USA. Only standard Apple software loaded. Buy elsewhere.

Well, I'll answer anyhow!
Yes, Apple products are more expensive and you often can't get the latest technology in China.
Hong Kong has better prices than China and the latest stuff.
China IS a good place to get your Apple repaired though as the price for labour is so low.

although although altough - they do have the latest macbooks (didn't see the black one though) AND the Apple Cinema display (20") was priced so that I was tempted to buy one.

astroboy - I didn't know that you were a mac user as well but I knew that Ruth in Canada, formerly in China, was.

OP - cheapest place to get a MAC is off the internet in the US.

Thanks for the enlightenment.. very depressing :(

Hmm Ok then!! But if I buy one and get it shipped into China, won't they charge me taxes ? meaning it was the same price anyway?

What are your thoughts?

Hmmm.. well according to the exchange rate xe.com....

The Beijing prices are cheaper than the RRP here in Australia (boy we must be really getting ripped off then!)

eg Macbook pro 15" 2.16ghz = 19000RMB = AUD$3000. (It is $3200 on the Apple Australia website).
the 2.33ghz = 23500 RMB = AUD$3713 ($3999 on the website).

Camelina - buy in Hong Kong. Seriously.
