Prague to Istanbul using public transport

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus

Thanks to all who replied to a previous posting regarding train & bus fares from Prague to Budapest. From your replies it is apparent that we can buy tickets for this journey in Prague the day before and dont have to book online/in advance. Useful stuff.

After Budapest we are still unsure of our precise journey to Istanbul but we do know it will be through Romania & Bulgaria. Can anyone advise whether it will be as easy to book travel the day before in these countries. Many thanks.

It's usually not a problem to book trains in Romania or Bulgaria the day of travel. I'd suggest buying a day in advance, just in case. I suspect you'll be taking at least one of the overnight trains to Istanbul -- I took those several times in Bulgaria, and they never seemed to be full.

If you're booking a full day in advance, you should be just fine.

www.seat61.com/Turkey.htm</a> might help.

It shouldn't be a problem, there's always spaces on these trains. Just make sure you book a sleeper.
