Prague or Krakow?

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus

Eastern europe trip this May and local airport offers flights to Prague & Krakow. Cant decide which to fly to for 2 nights on way to Budapest and need to make quick decision. Know a lot about Prague but little about Krakow. Any advice please?

You need to flip a coin, seriously.
Far too difficult to choose between these two great cities.

kmcat knows the story. There is only one way to decide, and that is to make it random. I visited Prague a few months ago and I became immediately enthralled. I then came to Krakow, and was so impressed with the rich history and architecture of Krakow, the friendliness of the Polish people, I rented a flat...and may stay for a long, long time. They are both great cities in almost every way.

This might help, although I can't see how you plan on getting from one city to the next once you get to Europe.

It is 550 KM from Krakow to Prague
It is 400 km from Krakow to Budapest

Also, because Prague has one of the best reputations in Europe for so many years as an ideal tourist site, many places are said to be " The new Prague ". The place most people refer to as the " Real " new Prague is...you guessed it: Krakow.

Thanks both of you. We had thought of tossing a coin before posting the message as we couldnt decide between them. Basically we have a choice because easy jet fly to both cities but not to Budapest from Newcastle anymore which is a shame.

Looks like the choice is going to be Krakow, largely because there is a large salt mine open to visitors. As my partner was a coal miner until 5 years ago, it is something he wants to do so decision made. We will catch overnight train from there to Bud.
