I've stayed at Finca Ixobel a few times and enjoyed it but recently heard of a similar place a bit north of Poptun and I would like info on that place. If you have stayed there or are familiar with it would you share that information please? What is it like? What are the accomodations? Food? Surrounding area?
I'm sure you heard of the Naj Tunich caves south of Poptun. It is considered one of the most interesing discovered archeological sites in Peten. I watched a documentary on National Geographic the other day called something like "Travel to the end of the Earth" The caves are so deep that the expedition was never able to get to the bottom because one of crew members suffered a bad fall while rappelling down. So he was medevac by helicopter and that's the end of the documentary. You probably already been there since you've been to Finca Ixobel. On the other hand, you'll see that www.passplanet.com/guatemala talks about a place called Finca El Tapir in Poptun as an alternative to Finca Ixobel. Who knows if that's the place you're looking for. Good luck. | 1
You might be looking for Oasis Chiyu, on the river Chiyu, a few miles from Poptun. | 2
