Plitvice - Zagreb : can we take bikes on the bus ?

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Croatia

Hello,

We are 3 friends, and we are going from France to the Plitvice Lakes by bike next month.
For the return trip, we have found trains which accept bikes, but the departure location is in Zagreb.

I have seen that there were several buses per day which travel from Plitvice to Zagreb (found on this website : http://voznired.akz.hr/VozniRed.aspx?lang=en)

But I cannot find the information I need : do the buses take bikes on board ? If so, do we have to book tickets (we will have 3 bikes), or can we just wave at the bus and pay inside ? Finally, how much costs the trip per person ? Is there an extra cost for the bikes ?

Sorry, it's a lot of question, but I would be very glad if someone can help us !

Thanks by advance for your answers !

Vincent.

Bonjour!

I doubt that buses take bikes.

Trains are more likely to take bikes, but I'm not sure.

The nearest train station to Plitvice is Vrhovine. It's about 40 km from the National Park entrance by road, but you might find a shortcut through the park suitable for bikes.

Unfortunately only a couple of trains stop at this station:

One at 05:16 in the morning, the other one at 17:47 in the afternoon. With the latter you can be in Zagreb by 9pm after a tight connection in Ogulin. You'll have 20 minutes to catch the Euronight to Munich.

Again, I don't know whwther bikes are allowed on these trains, but it's more likely than on the bus.

Try to write an e-mail to Croatian Railways:

They might even reply, you'll never know if you never try.
