Plitvice Lakes day trip

Is it possible to visit Plitvice Lakes as a day trip from Split if you don't have a car?

Technically, yes. Take an early morning bus to Zagreb via Plitvice, spend a few hours at the lakes, and then get on the evening bus passing through Plitvice direction Split. It would be a long day. Other possibility (better): check with a tourist agency for organized day trips by bus from Split to NP Plitvice.

Fab, thanks! Maybe a tour agents would be best then. Does anyone have any recommendations? If it makes any difference we're both in our late 20s, and are on a budget.
