We are 2 straight women planning a 3 week trip to Brazil in August 2014. We are not interested in beaches but more in the culture and nature. Apart from Rio and Iguassu Falls, what do you suggest we see?
Culture and nature. There's a lotta that. | 1
And your sexual orientation is relevant how? Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen that on Thorn Tree...and that's saying something. | 2
Presumably they're hoping not to be inundated with suggestions to visit LGBT pride marches, Daniella Mercury concerts or gay nightclubs. To which end I should point out that the São Paulo Pride march has already come and gone and the one in Salvador usually falls in September and this year the one in Rio is in October I believe. Gender, sexual preference and even ethnicity are seen as vital information these days. Budget, interests and tastes, less so. @the OP, I suggest that you visit Salvador, SP and the colonial towns of MG but then I know absolutely nothing about you or what defines 'culture' for you. I'd suggest you get a guide book | 3
I loved the Pantanal; it was a relaxing break in the middle of three weeks of hectic sightseeing. I then flew up to Manaus and had a few days in the Amazonia region. Again it was lovely. Fishing and reading, swimming and jungle walking. Rio had so much to do and I loved the time there. I stopped off in Brasilia due to flight changes (gave me an afternoon there with an early morning flight) but it could have easily been missed out. I wish I'd have time for St Luiz and Lencois Maranhenses so if I had to plan the trip again I'd have cut the time in Rio a little, Brasilia and then added these in their place. It was difficult to tie up flights but I'd have made more effort! | 4
