Photographer looking for people staying in the Netherlands for their job

Interest forums / The Long Haul - Living & Working Abroad

Hello, my name is Paulien, I'm a student photography. For a schoolproject I am looking for people, who are a long way from home because of their job, and therefore stay in a hotel/hostel in the Netherlands. Like businessman, truck drivers, sailors. I photograph these people in their room, where they spend the evening. I want to show how those people spend their evening; do they make themselves comfortable and make the room a bit cosy, or maybe they don't do that at all. And what do they do before sleeping time; maybe they have certain rituals or they smoke a cigarette on the balcony, maybe they watch some TV, call their husband/wife at home etcetera.

Most important to me is to reflect in my pictures the feeling of being a long way from home, being in a place quite impersonal. These people do not have to pose for the camera; I just spend half an hour with them in the evening and we chat a bit and I take some pictures.

Are you staying in the Netherlands because of your job and would you like to participate in this project, please contact me: paulien@pkpics.nl

I really need your help, thank you in advance!!

Kind regards,
Paulien Kluver

You could try Institute of Social Studies in Den Haag. It is a school of mostly overseas students.
