That one puzzles me. I checked entrance fees for 1/2/3 days in Petra. So far so good, but here comes tricky bit. What do I have to pay if I'm gonna stay 2 more days? I found in one of the guides "... there's no charge for additional days, but your permit should still state the number of days required...". Is it true?

When I was there in October it was $50 for 1 day, $55 for two days and $60 for three. Your ticket will state if it is 1,2 or 3 days.If you want to visit on 5 days I think you'll have to buy a three day ticket followed by a two day one.

Very simple.
You tell them you want to visit for 5 days and they sell you a three day ticket (which will be valid for 5 days).
Note that this ticket does not include 'Petra by Night' for which you pay separately.

I'm certainly sure about the fourth day being free if you get a ticket for three days. No reason why a fifth day wouldn't be free as well. Certainly they wouldn't charge you the first day's price all over again.
But five days sounds a bit much to me. I only used two of my three days (being totally exhausted on the second day as I'd also gone to Petra by Night the first day - and I'm an old lady) but those two days were enough to get around everywhere at least once.

I found your advice very helpful. I feel like pushing my luck, but... Do you know if I can use a tripod when taking pictures in Petra. And that Petra by night. Is it a value for money. Can you do it in your own pace or you are treated like flock of sheep?

To visit the entire site you need 2.5 days.

I don't think you'll have any problems taking in a tripod, except maybe in the on-site museum, but better make sure it's a very lightweight one with finely adjustable legs or you'll find yourself regretting having to lug it around all day.
If you use this site's search facility for Petra + photography there's a posting or two which tells you best times for photographs of the different places.

Darling, as I said earlier, you are superstar. Tripod is only a beginning. I've got 15 kg of equipment, which needs to be taken as well ;). I know I'm gonna be sorry, but that's a price you pay for having a hobby ;)
