Bedouins work with camels and horses, not with tuk-tuks and buggys. It's the tradition. Agree they do not always care for their horses so well, but bear in mind that many people in Jordan are poor and care about humans first, when they can afford to.

Well I was there in may and refused all rides on animals. they were not looked after very well. The issues are if you are using animals to provide a service to tourists, then they should look after them. Instead they go for more money from tourists. Even basics like tying up animals in the heat of the sun, rather than doing so in shade!

If the animals were being used to farm or not for anything touristy then I'd be less upset about it. But when they are making money from tourists and nagging every single one saying its included in the price (of course a tip is required later), i'm not going to help them out regardless of how poor they are. There are right and wrong ways to make money.
