Palawan tour

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Philippines

I have seen a lot of discussions about Palawan, however, I was not able to find any information about transportation from Port Barton to Coron or vv. I would like to take advantage of the Superferry route from and to Manila thus giving me 1 week in Palawan.I would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me if this 1-week itinerary is possible (time & transportation wise): Puerto Princesa - Port Barton - Coron or the other way around. (I wouldn't mind riding jeepneys or buses through rough roads.) Thanks!

I've been to Palawan 11 years ago. A lot may have changed there in the meantime, but I wouldn't think that transportation has got worse. What you want was possible then so I think it should be possible now. I flew into Puerto Princesa then took jeepneys / buses to Sabang, Roxas, El Nido, then back to Taytay to chatch the (not so super:-) "ferry" - a large bangka with a crazy captain, so to say a jeepney for the sea - to Coron. From there I took the big ferry to Batangas. I had more than a week, but I also spent several days on Coco Loco island in Honda bay, and some more in El Nido to do some scuba diving. If you try to squeeze all this into only 1 week, you won't have a lot of time to spend in each place, but if you just want to say "been there", I think it's doable. Sorry I do not know any ferry schedules.

not a reply, but a follow up question. Is it possible to get from southern Palawan to Sabah, seeing it's pretty close?

From Port Barton, you either go back to Puerto (5hrs. on a Jeepney) and take the Superferry on Sunday morning to Coron.

Or you hire a boat to El Nido, or take a public jeepney back to Roxas, change to Bus to El Nido. On Tuesday there is Boat to Coron (only in good weather, P2000/pax). Seair flies El Nido- Busuanga (Tues,Thur,Sat till October and from the 15 Oct Sun,Wed,Sun, P3,000/pax). Artcafe would know more about this.

There used to be (possibly still is) a bi-weekly ferry from Liminancong to Coron and on to Manila. There is now a road from Taytay in to Liminancong or you can travel by banca from EN.

The Liminancong -Coron -Manila boat (Josille, Atienza shipping lines) passes also El Nido. But it comes, or it doesn't. It's always a gamble and an overnight sleeping at the pier for the boat that doesn't arrive or at the end will not stop in Coron is not an unusual thing. And even more so in rainy season.
