Overland travel eastInterest forums / Older Travellers
Hi could anybody tell me how far i would be able to travel east (coming from the uk) in a normal family car 2 wheel drive 4 door saloon? I cant afford to buy and equipe a 4x4 vehicle but i would love to do a long road trip. I was thinking of the Iran Pakistan India route and does anybody know of anyone who has done this before many thanks Clive
From the car point of view your proposed trip is perfectly reasonable. Problem area that spring immediately to mind are car insurance/carnet de passage, getting a visa for Iran and crossing through Pakistan into India. Check out the feasibility on the appropriate government websites. Continuing east is difficult - into Bangladesh overland is not allowed at present. You will need to be prepared to repair the car yourself on the way and carry extra fuel and water - spare tanks welded in the back would help. Sounds like a fantastic journey! Dave | 1
Hi Dave thanks for that yes i realise i need a carnet de passage and thats what really made me think of the family car the cost just goes up and up i have the time to do this but not the money to buy 4x4 as well . My main concern was the state of the roads i know i will be limted where i can go but as long as there are enough roads that will be ok for the car thats fine for me this will still be the biggest trip i have ever done thanks very much for your time Dave. | 2
