Opium in Rajasthan

I read somewhere that opium is used in a controlled fashion at some festivals.
Has anyone ever come across this? And do they grow it domestically or import it? Also what does the government do about it?

narcotics and festivals kind of go hand in hand around the world:-)

In the "hinterlands" of Rajasthan - especially with Bishnois - opium is used. Not that all people r getting f'd up. But it is used in a regualr manner.

Nothing in India is ever done in a controlled fashion. Anarchy and chaos prevail, as you will see.

I saw a "Government Opium Store" in Jaisalmer, just outside the main entrance to the fort .... always wondered what that was about

Did it actually say Government Opium Store or did it say Government Bhang Shop?
