Operators and advise for gorilla trekking in Uganda

I am planning my itinerary for my trip to Africa February 2014. Part of the trip is gorilla trekking in Uganda, where I have to book permits in advance.

Since we will probably just be in Uganda for 4-5 days, we will do the gorilla trekking with an operator, even though we normally just travel by public means. But it is quite difficult to judge what is best. They all have different opinions about the best groups etc. Some say that we will see lots of wild life on the way, while others say we wont even though the destination is more or less the same.

Just looking for someone with a good experience with some operators or some knowledge of what to do. And bad experiences are welcome as well, since those have to kept in mind.

The prices vary a lot as well and it is difficult to jugde whether it is actually worth to pay the higher price.

Hi casper, i had a three day Gorilla trek in june in western uganda which i booked with a tour and travels company and it was such great experience, i plan on doing another one and if you also plan on doing one then lets do something together. We hired a vehicle with driver from Alphacar, based in Kampala. They were excellent. Rates were competitive, driver was as good as a guide and went without a hitch. Can also sort permits.
With time available, head out direct from Entebbe, if flying in there, to Queen Elizabeth - two nights, then two nights near the gate where your gorilla group are, either in Bwindi or Mgahinga, (last reports were that there were gorillas there).
That would get you into Kampala late afternoon in time for a stroll around either the markets or a visit to Mengo and the Buganda monuments.

Obviously any tour company will tell you to check them out. I work with www.routestoafrica.com. We have a lot of experience, will always be straight with clients and give the best deal possible.

If you are only going straight for gorilla trekking, you actually will not see much wildlife along the way. You "might" be lucky and see a zebra near Lake Mburo. Otherwise, maybe a monkey at times, until you reach Bwindi.

Permits alone are $500 per person - then add entry fees, transport, accommodation, and meal costs, etc.

To get there, trek, and return to Kampala takes 3 days. Some time at Queen Elizabeth or Lake Mburo National Parks can be added; it obviously depends on you, your time table, and your budget.
