Octopus vs Amunuca

Hi there,

We've finally narrowed our accommodation options to Octopus Resort (Yasawas) or Amunuca Resort (Mamanucas) and I need some help making the final decision!

The plan is to go for Christmas - 11 nights in resort with 1 night either side in Nadi to allow time for the boat transfer. We (OH and I, 31 and 30 respectively) will be looking for somewhere with similar aged people (probably couples, not really backpackery), easy snorkelling from the beach, good beaches, diving facilities and generally a bit of life without being outrageous.

If anyone has been to both, I'd love to hear the comparisons...

Otherwise, which would you choose and why?!

Haven't been to Amunuca and can't comment on it, but Octopus has all sorts of people - couples, backpackers, families - which gives it good bit of life, but it's plenty quiet. A couples-only sort of place won't have much life. Can't say that I'd want to stay 11 days there, or anywhere. Things generally run on a weekly schedule with little variation, so you'll get stuck with the same theme nights, same food, and that sort of thing. With 11 days, I'd go to at least 2 places. Transferring from place to place is hardly a chore. If I absolutely had to stay in just one place for 11 days, then there's one I'd choose over Octopus, but it's probably booked already for then.

Answer seems very obvious to me .....go to both.
Like #1 , Ive been to Octopus and other islands - all lovely, but not for 11 days.

11 nights in the one spot is not as good as a split between two, which is what most do. Octopus is great but works to a 7 day loose activity and set meals roster which works for up to a week beyond that you're repeating things, do 2 places in the Yasawas for minimum fuss transit up or back on the Yellow Boat daily run.

I loved octopus but it is a place to relax. I could do 11 days because relaxing is what I do best but most people would want a change after 5 or 6 I think. As TW4th said, after a week you will be repeating things.
