Not another Syrian Visa question...

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

I know, I know this has been beaten to death but I havent been able to find a reply for my specific nationality.

Can a Canadian get a visa on arrival at the Turk/Syria border allowing them to cross into Syria? Ive read some conflicting information and I know its best to get in Canada but will not be able to as im traveling for over 3 months. I assume passport photos and a passport are all thats needed.

Thanks so much for any replies and Im sorry for yet another border question.

Up till recent reports that Canadians can get VOA for Syria.only need is your passport
i hvnt heard any Camdians denied visa

I just traveled to Damascus via the Syrian / Jordan border six weeks ago. We had a couple of Canadians with us hoping to get visas at the border (they had in the past), but after 3 hours, my friends were turned away and sent back to Jordan. I can't guarantee the same response at the Syrian / Turkish border, but the only person that was able to buy a visa in our group was a Portuguese woman (no embassy in her home country).

Good luck!

They are getting tougher about enforcing the rules at hte borders these days. the rule is simple, if you have an embassy in your home country you will be denied at the border. Apply before you leave.

Better to be safe than very sorry and dissapointed.

No, that is not the rule. The rule is that if you FLEW into the neighboring country, and only if you FLEW, you can get a single-entry Syrian visa at the border. Whether or not the immigration staff you will be dealing with at the border knows this is another issue.

And I'll add (cf zillions of previous posts): that rule has been broken quite regularly over the past few years, with people being granted visas at the land border even though they had not FLOWN into the neighboring country, but that is a casual breach of the rule, not the rule itself. As for rules... well, they change anyway!

Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies! I think what im going to do is get the multiple entry visa in advance in Canada even though its more expensive because its valid for 6 months. Cheers,
