(You can get to older Thorntree posts via some of the older LP pages. Oldest I found working 1997 People even used their real names!)

The older the archive the less complete it is but there's enough there to see that the discussions haven't change much over the years.

Plenty of vintage Tezza, ProfFart, Girlrig, steve252, Kanaga (deleting back in the day), etc if you dig around.

It is amazing that people has mostly been asking the same questions for 10 years. What weather? Which beach? KSR blah blah? SUK11 blah blah. Is Thailand safe to travel to? What to pack? 'I was scammed' warnings, 'I'm not a sleaze but ...'. What's the exchange rate? Even - where's the roller-skating restaurant in Bangkok?

Respect to everyone who keeps on answering the questions. You ever wonder why though?

Its all that tezzas fault that Koh Chang and Koh Lippe are Backpacker cess pitts now! oh for the good old days when no roads on Koh Chang and each day we moved towards the sea from the rear bungalows at 100baht a night (Now all are aircon with sat TV and fridge +bar) I had the last one white sands beach resort 150 bhat 2years ago.

I remember 'Major Loverat' commanding operations on Nana Plaza during a big South East Asia Mainland Bangkok piss up a few days before TT had its Christmas/New Year shutdown.

The 'Major' was also involved in an ongoing scrap with a gimp at the same time under his regular handle and would keep on vanishing every 20 minutes to Nana Internet to post on TT!

Ah the good old days when it was and average of 70B for a beer on Nana and Woodstock still provided an Oasis of peace on a sea of Chaos.....

It's all so very different now and I, like Montyman, blame Tezza.

opethbleak - I was just a lurker back then. Couldn't afford the flight so it was all vicarious distraction. I used to drop in from time to time and occasionally show people at work the wonders of internet technology and how it could bring (dis)like minded people together. What a beautiful world.
