Northern Lights in TromsoCountry forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Norway
I've just spent 4 nights in Tromso and had great views of the lights at (1) the frozen lake a 30 minute walk from the centre of town and to which your hotel will be able to direct you and (2) at a dark and quiet area at the base of the ski lifts which you can reach using bus 24 from the city centre. Ask to be dropped off at the bus stop by the school (large brown building) and walk behind the school on the path of cleared snow until you leave the lighted area. If you cant afford/don't want to go on an excursion these are places to go to hve a chance to see the lights quite well.
Thanks for sharing!!! It seems that you had a very nice time in Tromso. I'm planning to be there in May and would like to ask you a few questions: | 1
Hi, I had a great time in Tromso. Very friendly and attractive place with plenty of stuff to see and do in the area. I stayed in the Viking Hotel Apartments which were excellent - but we had the top floor one so if you were above 6ft the sloping ceilings might be a bit low. The apartment was v comfortable and the breakfast, taken in the hotel next door was good and the staff friendly and helpful. I didn't hire a car. We got around by bus and walking - you can get a 24 hour ticket on the bus for NKr 90 which is good value as most rides around town cost Kr40 at least. We flew SAS from Heathrow via Oslo but in summer I think there may be some direct flights. Didn't stay in Oslo. Enjoy your trip. | 2
Many thanks for sharing Janey!!! I'm going to check the Viking apartments to see if they have any availability when I need them :) | 3
