New Years Day - 6th April 09

Planning to travel between Palymra and Hama on 6th April which I believe to be Syria's New Year Day. Will this be possible?

I dont know what new years day you are talking about.You can travel on busses from Palmyra to Hama as usual on that date.

I guess you are meaning the "Akitu"(meaning "1st of Spring") , the Assyrian/Syriac/Chaldean new year... a pre-christian tradition of strong significance to assyrian nationalism... but considering how small a minority assyrians are is very unlikely that their festivals affect in anything to the rest of the country. Surely most syrian (not syriac) people will not even know what Akitu is...
