New Year Eve in Mérida, Yucatán

Country forums / Mexico / Mexico

Hi everyone,

I´m looking for some fun and cozy atmosphere during the NYE in Mérida, Yucatán. Any recommendation? My friends and I are looking for a good place with fabulous dinner, live music and young and nice people. If someone has a smart tip, would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yucatan Today is a good resource. Here's a decent-looking list of options, as well:

I have never been in Mérida during NYE, but I have been there before ane it's probably one of my favourite Mexican cities. I'm more than sure that the locals will do or have already something incredible for that night.

You can see some activities here, as previously recommended, at Yucatán Today

Hey. I'm back... I looked around because I wanted to see how things where done in Mérida with NYE and I found out that usually locals tend to be very private about the celebration. They always with their families, light up some fireworks and dance a bit. No thee won't be a major public event as I thought People

Sorry...

As I thought People from Mérida might do.

Also, most big hotels and restaurants will offer the party/dinner plan for that night. With the full traditional meal, drinks, music, dancing... But I heard very good thing about a hotel named Rosas y Xocolate. Apparently they serve amazing NYE food and host an awesome celebration. You can email them and ask about this

Not entirely true. A lot of people go to the Plaza Grande; a lot of tourists (Mexican and international) come to the city during holiday time and they are also looking for something to do. We had visitors a couple of years ago and while I stayed home they went out and danced in the Plaza Grande. I don't think it was anything officially organized but there were a lot of people, apparently.

Thanks to everyone. BTW, Happy Holidays to all!

Ref_traveller. That's amazing. I knew that my cool Mérida locals wouldn't miss that chance to do something nice for NYE. I admit that I thought that maybe it was a more official, organizer event but it's good nonetheless.

If I were you I would get some good good at a restaurant drink a bit and then go for one of those plaza events to have some local fun.

If you want a classy place to spend New Year's Eve, check out Apoala, corner of 55th and 60th, in Parque Santa Lucia. Beware of one thing; although the outdoor seating is nice, that also is where the smokers are seated, and where the wandering vendors pester you. Other than that, the food and service both are excellent, and there may be music, but not guaranteed. It isn't cheap, by Mexican standards, but by US standards, very reasonable, considering the quality of the menu and the level of service. I prefer the seating inside.

For comparison, buena noche meals at a couple of notable restaurants here in Oaxaca City cost: 1200 MXN at Restaurant Catedral (a block north of the Alameda); but only 950 MXN at Hotel Marques del Valle (north side of the Zocalo). I estimated approx 5.000 people in the Zocalo last night, and more in the Alameda (plus the Alcala)
