New Calendonia - Novice!

Hello Guys,

I am after some help - I have managed to get some great airfares to New Caledonia ($600 return for two) from New Zealand. I leave 20th Nov and come back 2nd Dec - I fly into Noumea.

I was going to Raro and did a lot of study on that - but rather blank about New Caledonia. Are you able to help with filling me in on some must sees? - We will be doing the trip on a budget and interested in seeing more of the natural life etc - and shopping for the other half!

We are on a budget and all my reserach so far points to an expensive holiday... Is it possible to do this on the cheap?

And another note, I am looking for a flat/room I can rent privately for a week - I dont this in Australia and Rarotonga in the past. Cant see anything online, is there such thing in new caledonia?

If there is private apartment rentals it would be in Noumea, though villages may have "bures".

In noumea nad other parts, cheapish food can be had from the local markets and the excellent supermarkets (in Noumea especially).For lunch I loved the "foot-long" filled baguettes, otherwise do it yourself from the supermarkets.
