Namibia -unguided hiking and guided climbing - suggestions?Country forums / Africa / Namibia
We are heading to Namibia in 8/2014 and are looking for opportunities to do a 2-4 day hiking trip. We've both been to Namibia before, as well as to other African countries, so we know what's involved re safety etc. However there seem to be relatively few places where you can hike unguided and with only 2 people. Any suggestions anyone?? Also I wonder if anyone knows of professional climbing guides in Namibia? We are interested in climbing the Spitzkoppe but when we passed by on our last trip the route-finding looked a bit intricate. thanks!
Hi, There are plenty of places that you can do unguided hikes, just depends if you want to do it as an overnight hike or just for a few hours. You might like to look at places like, Zebra River Lodge, Neuras and Naukluft & Waterberg as I know all of these places have excellent hiking trails that vary from 2hours - 8hours. Obviously you need to ensure you are prepared in terms of water, food and equipment but you should be provided with a map of the trails in the area from each of the lodges/camps. For climbing guides, I would suggest that you contact Richard @ Urban Friction. his email is ufriction@gmail.com . I believe he is quite high up in the climbing association of Namibia and runs climbing trips all over the country. Hope that helps | 1
Hi, we are in namibia from Monday 10th upto Friday 22 august and we are still looking for other people to join us for a hiking trail. We were thinking of 8 days in Naukluft, but we are happy with what we can get, as it is dificult to find a third person (or more). We have filled in the medical form, so that is no problem. If you read this by any chance, please let me not if there are still oppertunities for us. | 2
