Namibia - Elephant Death

Country forums / Africa / Namibia

This is a report in a UK newspaper of a (Spanish ?) tourist that was alledgely killed by an Ele at a campsite in Purros, Namibia.

It was also reported in a Namibian [newspaper report |http://www.metro.co.uk/news/873158-rampaging-elephants-kill-tourist-as-wife-hid-under-a-blanket] - which mentions a boy also being injured.

Hi John,

Unfortunately that report is correct, last Thursday a Spanish tourist, who was camping at Purros was killed when he crossed paths with an ellie when walking from his car.
The attack happened at approximately 17:00, so it was dusk, but we do not have the full details of the incident.

There have been reports that this is the second time that someone has come to harm when crossing paths with this specific elephant, but we have not had any news on what the future holds for the animal.

everyone in the tourism industry is very saddened by this loss!
