Must do's in Brittany / Pays de la Lois

Country forums / Western Europe / France

Hey! I will travel around Brittany, starting in Nantes next week. I am happy to get some advices what I shouldn't miss!! Still am flexible...
It's always good if it's easy to reach with bus/train :)

Salut! Je vais voyager dans la Bretagne et je commence ma voyage à Nantes la semaine prochaine. Qu'est-ce qu'il faut visiter dans la région en tout cas??
Mercii :)

Why are you going there? What are your interests?

I wanted to travel at the coast but I have no fixed plans yet. Only know that I start in Nantes.
I like to see beautiful nature, I love beaches but also just the typical landscape or cities in the area because I love taking photos. And I love music and dance if there are any events for hip hop it would be fantastic...

I have seen much of the area from La Rochelle to Mont St. Michel, BUT I was with a friend and in his car.

Also when you say, Pays de la Lois, do you mean the Loire Valley area? If you do, I would suggest a train ride to Angers to see the Chateau d'Angers, the old part of the city and a couple beautiful gardens. Would make a nice day trip via train from Nantes.

If you like beaches and such, you might consider some time at Ile Noirmoutier. You might be able to rent a bike and see more of the island and there is a bus from Nantes. http://www.vendee-guide.co.uk/ile-de-noirmoutier.htm
In Nantes there is an old chateau or fortification along the river and the cathedral of Nantes is worth touring.

There are many sea side towns along the sea going to the Brittany area that are beautiful and of course more beaches.

Pointe du Raz is along the sea and might be of interest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointe_du_Raz
There are many small villages in the Brittany area that are nice to view and be sure to have some Crêpe and cider.
If you can I would also recommend Mont St. Michel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont_Saint-Michel

About the Breton part of your travel, you may have a look at http://visite.bretagne.free.fr/index.php/en/itineraries.html to get some ideas of day trips from Nantes to the west and north (or will you consider accommodation in other places ?). There are some indications about public transport to reach some cities and towns in Brittany.

Thank you! This page is really helpful!
