Munich to Innsbruck via Mittenwald

Country forums / Western Europe / Austria

I was confused about which specific train stop I need to exit for my journey from Munich to Innsbruck via Mittenwald. Is it Mittenwald or Mittenwald bahnhoff/postamt or another stop altogether? I will NOT be taking an ICE train but a regional train from Munich as I will have a Bayern regional ticket but I will be taking any train that goes from the border to Innsbruck Hbf. I don't want to exit the German Bahn line in Mittenwald and have to go far to get to the Austrian ÖBB line that gets me to Innsbruck. From my research on the Bahn and ÖBB website it looks like I can travel from Munich to Mittenwald bahnhof/postamt and then from that exact location board the ÖBB train line to get to Innsbruck. Is this correct? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Bahnhof is the german for station. Postamt is the german for Post Office. Trains stop at the station (and unless something has gone wrong, nowhere else!!)

Most trains between Mittenwald and Innsbruck are through trains from Munich - you don't have to go anywhere its the same train and the same platform in the station. For reference, here is the current timetable which shows this: http://kursbuch.bahn.de/hafas/kbview.exe/dn/KB960_H_Taeglich_nur_10062012_08122012_G01062012.pdf?filename=KB960_H_Taeglich_nur_10062012_08122012_G01062012.pdf&orig=sT

Edited to say I hadn't seen abalada's similar response as you had double-posted. At least we said something similar!

The normal (RB) price from Munich to Mittenwald is the same as a Bayern Ticket, in any case...

Yes, as Mike has answered above...hopefully you can allow yourself a few hours to walk around pretty Mittenwald and soak up the surrounding beauty...good for the soul...
