Hi, Anyone can give guidance on mountain climbing, we want to do Jebel Akhdar and/or Jebel Shams, in Oct or November, we will drive over from Abu Dabi, can we get guide in the mountains or how does this work, do we need permits, if so where can we get them. How long are the hikes, one day, two days or what. Some hint and tips to start with will be highly appreciated... Many thanks in advance.... :)
Viking, I don't know the answers to your questions, but I live in Abu Dhabi so I'll ask some people that I know to see if they have any recommendations. Do you know how long you will be in the region or is that based on the length of the trek? KasaNomad | 1
Viking You'll find several marked trails for Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams listed in the Explorer Oman Trekking, although the maps are not really detailed. There are hikes from a few hours to 3 days. You can also find them described on this website (and others if you search): I'm not aware of any need for permits. I can highly recommend 2 Omani trekking guides (licenced) if you want to go with a guide - I only have phone numbers for them that I don't really want to post here. If there is a way I can send them privately, I'm happy to do that. They both speak excellent English and are lovely guys who will take care of whatever you need. One is from a village on Jebel Akhdar, the other is from Tiwi. Both know lots of trails that you won't find in the guide book. | 2
Viking, My contacts didn't have much to saying about hiking/trekking. Best to go off what Camelicious offered. Safe Travels | 3
