Most inspiring RTW wesbites and blogs?Interest forums / Gap Year & Round the World Travel
Hello everyone! We are starting our around the world trip in a mere 6 weeks time, and like most people stumbled across the forum! We have set up our website (which can give you a god idea of the route etc): http://www.365aroundtheworld.com Our budget is most definitely 'shoe string' so it will be interesting to see how far we can get. We just wanted to have your guys input on any of the blogs or websites you like to follow or are inspired by relating to RTW travel? It would be nice to give us a little idea. If you wanted to follow us on our journey in the world of Social Media we are here: https://twitter.com/365_rtw
enjoy your holiday. Your car is a lot newer than mine, although admittedly I'm not driving mine to Mongolia! Don't forget your NZ fishing licence, to clean your gear against didymo and that you can only free camp subject to the local regulations. | 1
Thanks neverwinter, Will have to look into the free camping in NZ. Post Vietnam our plans get less structured which is quite nice so can play it more by ear. | 2
a search on here will help, but generally you can only 'free camp' if you are in a self-contained vehicle with a toilet. That said, the place is stuffed with Department of Conservation campsites with pit toilets for only a few dollars, which you can afford. Then you just go to a serviced campsite or a hostel when you need a shower. the mess left by those who wouldn't pay camp fees (but could always afford beer) means that rules have been tightened up. | 3
good luck guys. We did it last year and it was awesome. It's been quite hard since we came back and we're constantly looking at doing it again. Only issue now is money. How much cash are you guys bringing with you btw if you dont mind me asking? Btw if u consider renting in NZ check out Wendekreisen. Not a lot of people know about them. German owned, reliable and cheap campervans. You'll thank me later! | 4
Thanks pepfcb. Where did you guys go? did you do a blog? We should have around 6k GBP each. We have already got some big costs out of the way: insurance, visas to Vietnam, vehicle. We know it will be very 'shoe string'. But we thought we would give it a go anyway. See how far we get! | 5
Hi 365rtw, I like following http://gqtrippin.com/ and http://theplanetd.com/. | 6
really really don't want to rain on your parade, but that is bloody tight, you have some expensive destinations in there. still - as long as you have insurance and the funds for the return ticket, go for it - when money gets low, buy the ticket and come home! | 7
Thanks for the links onokara, your site looks cool - and some great photos! | 8
old Chinese curse... :-) | 9
Thanks neverwinter, We know it will be tight, but we are fairly relaxed about where we end up - would of liked it to be more but hasn't quite worked out that way and the time is now ;). Being close to the fiscal margin will make for some interesting times as well! | 10
Good luck with the trip- sounds epic! A slight plug on my own page, Where is Yvette?, cause I think it's pretty good at least. ;-) Been running it for 4 years and two RTW trips now, though these days the focus is my jaunts around Europe. | 11
Cool site Yvette + we are now following you in the world of Twitter! | 12
