Mongolia tour company recommendation

Country forums / North-East Asia / Mongolia

Hello all,

I am looking to find a reputable tour company that offers Naadam festival tours. I am not looking for budget tours, but one that uses nice hotels and ger camps. I'm hoping not to pay single supplements and open to having a share match. Does anyone know of a few good tour operators I could check out. I am also not looking to overpay for my tour. looking for a local operator to cut costs on middle man.

Thanks for any ideas.

Try contacting the people at info@adventuresmongolia.mn They were the ones who had great service, knowledge and dedication. They don't really cater for backpackers as our experience with them showed. Having studied tourism in London, the owner knows what you really want as soon as you start talking to them.

We used Juulchin (http://www.juulchin.com/en/) for our 18 day tour a year or so ago.

They aren't the cheapest but I couldn't fault them. I don't know if they would arrange a match with other single travellers but they do have Naadam tours.

For a tour company which is a bit above the budget backpacker ones try www.gobitours.com. They are specialists in travel in the Gobi but are a bit more pricey than others.

I would recommend Khongor Expeditions . I used them last autumn, we stayed at the guesthouse and then took a 10-day tour with a wonderful guide and driver. Was very happy with the service and will be using them again this summer.

UB Guesthouse is also reputable and well-established.

Whatever tour you do, I would NOT recommend taking a tour with Black Ibex/Discover Mongolia - we are well travelled and have never had to complain before but to say we werre ripped off by this company is a huge understatement. We recently paid £500 thinking it would be worth it as it would be experience of a lifetime etc but it really wasn't, mainly due to the quality of the guide and the fact that most of the activities we had been promised did not materialise - we were expecting to be travelling about spotting wildlife and viewing the countryside etc - in realty we drove for 5 minutes in the national park, and then as soon as we saw a tiny glimpse in the far distance of the takhi horse we were marched straight back to the ger and told to rest for the remainder of the day. One night in a ger and then we had to go back to UB because the heating in the vehicle wasn't working and it was -30 outside. They wouldn't entertain our complaints, called us liars and wouldn't hear of a partial refund.
