Mongolia During June/July

Country forums / North-East Asia / Mongolia

I will be heading into Mongolia after getting there from London, I leave in May and plan to arrive at the border end of June time, early July.
I will enter on the Trans-Mong down to U.B.
I was wondering, what is the best way to see the country, is it to meet up with like minded travelers and rent a jeep? or use the train and bus services? what is the regularity/reliability of those services? also is it hard to find accommodation in the less dense parts of M?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Many Thanks

Meeting up with the like minded and renting the jeep would be much better as the regularity of train/bus service doesn't really exist in proper sense. Mongolia is the place for camping in June/July & in the countryside. Unless you go to a tourist ger camp or local herder family there is no accomodations anyway.

Edward.
Mongolia is wasted on you if you haven't done more research than this.
It is the most fabulous place, lost in time.
If you can, DON'T miss Naadam.
It's around that time, and the events out in the countryside should not be missed.

Nadaam is July 11 - 13. It is a sports festival.

Train services are only the route from the Russian border to the Chinese border. Bus services are limited. Most lovals travel via minibuses whose services are somewhat irregular.

The best way for a foreigner to see the country is via a jeep with guide with other foreigners. You will see the most and learn the most this way.

Look at guesthouse websites for possible destinations and to find other travelers.
