so, we're competing in the 2010 Mongol Rally, a race from London to Ulan Batar in a 1 litre car through 13 countries covering roughly 10,000 miles. Also, the rally launches late July, so we expect we'll arrive in Mongolia late August or early September. It gets cold on the steppe at night, does anyone know how cold? Is camping in a tent safe with a normal sleeping bag, or should we plan to find a ger or hostel or something each night? Thanks!!!
My brother in law did the Mongolia Charity Rally last year. www.charityrallies.org Called themselves "wondering sailors". | 1
Prices for Fuel are quit good in these countries. russia is the cheapest. calculate with 60cent per liter. it can get pretty cold in high altitudes, but august and september it should be alright with camping. I've been there in the same time last year and it was fine. GOOD LUCK! | 2
Temperatures will depend upon where you are staying. You might try using google.com to look for historical weather information in some of the towns along your route. You won't find any hostels along the way, though there might be some guest houses. You may find gers that offer space along the way depending upon your route. Tent camping is probably safe but you need to be prepared for possible snow and cold temperatures. Ruth | 3
