Mombasa Resorts

Hi...Having never travelled to Africa, Im looking at a package deal to Mombasa from the UK...Ive read all the postings below and just want to ask 2 quick questions :

1. has anyone stayed at the Serena Beach Hotel before? Do you recommend it?

2. Is the estimation of "45 mins" from the airport realistic, and if airport transfers are not included in the package is it easy/safe/cheap to arrange? (Noting the comments below on bandits on buses to Lamu!)..Does anyone know of a shuttle co you can prebook to be picked up at the airport?

Transport to and from the airport is usually included in packages. The south coast resorts, such as Diani Beach, are a lot closer than the north coast resorts. Lamu is a long way from Mombasa and close to Somalia.
