Match the headline to the online paper

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / Australia

The 3 Fairfax online papers 'Most Read Articles' say a lot about the combined interest and intellect of the readers. Can you Match these to the papers

1 'DC Madam' vows to name thousands
2 Baldwin throws book at divorce
3 Hillary drops her maiden name

A Sydney
B Melbourne
C Brisbane

(No Looking)

1 - B?

2 - A?

3 - C?

3/3 zook, I got all worried that Brisbane would be out intellectualising Sydney when they went online. Based on today's result they are beating even the Melbournians

2

I would have voted for 1 - Canberra, if that were an option!

3

I used some pretty twisted logic(?) and a guess to get that right!

I assumed that a story about a DC madam wouldn't interest Brisbanites or Sydneysiders. Don't ask me why.

The Alec Baldwin story was doing the rounds in Melbourne Last week, so thought it wouldn't be here.

I also assumed that Hillary dropping her maiden name would not interest Brisbanites. Again, I'm not sure why I made these assumptions, but they seemed to help!

The Alec Baldwin sotry was also here in Syd last week. Kate - do you think Lord Downer et al may be nervous?

btw did anyone see Australian Story last night? It covered the Garuda crash oin Jogjakarta in March. The Australian Story team were there with Downer and they had footage of Liz O'Neill and Morgan Mellish - it was incredibly well done and very poignant

5

Got it right!

Saw Aus Story - very moving. Downer actually came across as a decent human being.

6

i agree annD it was well done and he came across so well. I nearly cried when they showed footage of Morgan Mellish.

7

yes, the parts on Liz O'Neill and Morgan Mellish were haunting, touching, and sad. the emotion of downer's chief advisor was particularly poignant. having said that, I found that that part of the program jarred quite weirdly with the rest of it. seemed inappropriate to segue from heartbreaking scenes of the repatriation ceremony to a wrap-up montage of downer set to jaunty rock music.

also have to disagree that Downer came across well overall, though his compassion and sorrow for the garuda crash victims was moving, obviously. but did you see part one of the program last week? he just seemed very arrogant and smug.

8

Only meant that he came across as decent for that part of the program, and yes, it did have a very different tone to the first part.

I stayed last night with a very dear friend in Melb; she's from South Oz and of course can't stand Downer....the way she talked about that Oz Story (and yes she did cry) made me sorry I had missed it...had not worried too much about it cos of the Downer factor.

ryb: australian story is replayed saturdays at 12.30 pm, so you can catch part 2 of the downer story (the section detailing the garuda crash) this weekend if you're inclined.
