Masai mara 24-27/7 - join our self-organised safariCountry forums / Africa / Kenya
Me and my wife are going on a self-organized safari to Masai Mara for four days, 24-27/7. We are renting a range-rover with driver and tent, and were hoping to find two more that wanted to join us to split the cost. We want to do it self-organized to get more freedom and spend less time searching for the big-five. We have also gotten the impression that going on a low-budget safari trip is something of a gamble. According to our calculations, the total cost for four days would be: ~145$/person/day or 540$/person for four days. This includes three days entrance and camping fees to Masai Mara + car and an approximation of costs for food (that we cook ourselves), fuel etc. If you are interested or have any questions, email me on: ovastberg at gmail.com
Hi Blomo! Edited by: franandbrian | 1
I will do that then, probably towards the end of august. If its just the two of us it will be 200$/day, so then the difference is not that big. And so far no one has replied, so if anyone read this and is interested, the spots are still there :). | 2
Hi blomo, I was also thinking of doing a similar thing later in the year, but have no idea how I can find camp sites in or around the Masai Mara. Have you found any? | 3
OPCooper: Finding campsites were no problem, there were plenty of them just outside the gates. We stayed at the Crocodile camp just outside of Kalek gate. For two tents (ours and our drivers) and two nights we paid 3000Ksh. The camp had hot showers, long-drop toilets and kitchen areas with water for dishing. The company that you rent your car from will probably be able to recommend you a few different places, and if you have a driver they will probably have been there many times before. | 4
