| beijingbicycle14:42 UTC29 Oct 2007 | Hi all,
My wife and I are planning a global trip focussing mostly on the markets of the world. These can be general markets, or markets of a particular product (flowers, rice, tea, spices etc.)
Planning on heading through Myanmar, and wanted to get some ideas of some of the most interesting, vibrant, unusual, photogenic markets in the country.
Any advice?
Many thanks.

also ... you would enjoy the circular train ride in Yangon.... there is a local market en route.... and people get on the train to and from the market .... great day out ... loads of fascinating people and places .

You can buy camera's that don't look like cameras. At the very least, don't be pushy. I loved the market at Keng Tueng. My favorite is in Bangkok. Its near the khlong on SamSen road. I can get there but I don't know its name.

Noted about the photos part, ono. I live in Beijing, and it's pretty similar up here. Usually if you smile and show them some of the pictures you are taking it makes a difference. And I agree with the Samsen Soi market in BKK, but also the fruit and veg ones by the canal.

In Myanmar, i liked the huge markets in Mandalay, there is a used clothing market, and they have some cool t shirts from a round the globe, lots of vintage rock and old pop bands too....of all places.
The biggest market was in Tyunggyi above Inle Lake a 1 hour ride, a huge Chinese market with endless knock offs from china...watches by the 1000's...
There was a really pretty and market in Sagiang, lots of flowers, and nice places to eat.

Ono, with all due respect, that's what a friend of mine calls "peeping tom photography". I think if you can't set up some kind of interaction with people in which they are willing to have their photos taken, then you shouldn't take their photos.
