Mar del Plata in winter?

Country forums / South America / Argentina

Would it be worth seeing Mar del Plata or other beach towns south of B.A. in winter? We'll be there in July, and never seem to make it to Argentina in southern hemisphere summer. We realize it will be cold, and wonder if everything will be closed?

I do not see any reason why you should come from the USA to visit the Atlantic Coast in winter.

I see a lot of tourism advertising in Buenos Aires for Mar del Plata in the winter. They want people to come in the low season, so I would imagine things would be open. Also, its a large city, not just a tourist town.

#2 it's not that they want people in low season, Mar del Plata is in season all the year :-)

Mar del Plata is an important city, and very beautiful.

It's a common destination for argentinian in summer but in winter too. The real high season during winter is on july, during the school's winter break.Mar del Plata: what to do in summer or winter

I would rather visit Pinamar, Carilo, Villa Gesel ... MDP sucks:P

anyway is a HUGE town and is alive all year round

It´s not really worth and the other places either!

been there several. Nothing really special to do. Friking cold, very windy, the beaches suck. No joke.
If MDQ wasn't the only place in Argentina with waves, i'd never go.

You can eat decent fish there, tho. But so can you in the lake district.

you'd probably suggest Punta Tombo beaches ;-)
