manatee tours in caye caulker

Country forums / Central America / Belize

Hello,
My family is taking a trip to Belize and we will be in Caye Caulker for a few days in the beginning of July. Are there recommended manatee tours? Should we make any reservations in advance, or just wait until we get there? How long before we want to go on a tour should we schedule it if we wait to do so until we get there? Thank you so much! Any info is much appreciated.

A few years ago I engaged the services of Mr. Chocolate and enjoyed a prima manatee experience. He knew his business.

Ive never made a reservation for anything in Belize and through many trips never had a problem.

I second what eddy said about Chocolate....I can't imagine anyone being a better guide for manatee viewing. Since you're going in low season, you may want to contact him ahead of time. I was there in April and just happened to get lucky by going by Chocolate's place just in time to get on the only trip he did that week. He said that there had not been many tourists, so he wasn't going out as often as usual.

Since you are going to be there a few days, go see him at the beginning of your stay. If it rains one morning, he may postpone the trip
(this is what happened to us). It's good to have an extra day as a back-up option .

if you have the opportunity and time. Go with chocolate. As #3 said see him at the beginning of you stay and find out when he is going out. He is the man that brought Mantees awareness in Belize. To go with anyone else would be foolish. Kind of like learning about gorillas with Jane Goodall.
