Mae Sai - Keng Tung - Mong La

Hi - any advice on how to travel from Mae Sai to Keng Tung (Kyaing Tong) and then onwards to Mong La? Both in terms of visas and transportation? Any advice on places to stay etc? I'm not interested in seeing 'hill tribes', more the towns themselves (Keng Tung and Mongla). Is it worth going to Mong-La these days?

YOu can get a two week visa at the border [and must exit back at Tachileik] BUT you may not travel beyond the Tachileik-Mong La corridor unless you've already gotten a 28 day tourist visa beforehand to fly inland to central Burma.

There are share taxis as well as buses. If you're not interested in doing hikes, then Kyaingtong is worth only a couple days because it's a small town and easily covered via a bike rental.
