Madgascar, Comoros, Seychelles, Mauritius etc Nov-Dec 2010

Country forums / Africa / Madagascar

Hi all,
i am now in Madagascar, continuing my long (3 years and running) world tour.
Will be here for a month or so with trips to Mauritius & Seychelles later.

Right now in Mahajunga, waiting for a cargo boat to Comoros. Will be back in a week, and spend another few weeks in Madagascar.

Anyone else interested in exploring these islands together ?

Hi, I know this is way late, but I am condiering plying the same route Madagscar to Seychelles by water.

Any pointers? Inexpensive ferries or cargo boats? How to go about the whole process?

Thanks alot .

There seems to be no way to get to Seychelles by water unless you find a private yacht to hitch on or go on a cruise. From Madagascar to Comoros & back, you can find cargo boats from Mahajunga. Go to the cargo agency near Kohinoor restaurant, or ask the guy at Fayyaz guest house.

From Madagascar to Mauritius (via Reunion) there is a reasonably priced cruise that goes weekly from Tamatav.

Ye ive never come across a boat from Mada to Seychelles. Mada to Comoros is easy enough, there are plenty of boats going to and fro, just ask at the port. Its around 100 Euros one way from Comoros to Mahajanga. Obviously be careful of the time of year in terms of sea conditions, ask if the boat has a GPS!, and I would personally choose a flight over boat recently given high pirate activity in the area.
