Luggage storage near Aegina port?

Country forums / Western Europe / Greece

Is there luggage storage anywhere near the Aegina port? I'm considering spending the day in Aegina, staying the night in Agistri, then heading back to Athens the next day. I would prefer to bring my luggage - just a backpack - with me to Aegina rather than leave it overnight in Athens somewhere and, say, bringing an overnight bag. But I don't want to lug my bag around Aegina with me all day!

I don't know about Aegina but there's a new business across the street from the Monastiraki Metro Station called "Athens Lockers" where you can store your things inexpensively. and if you don't already know, the Monastiraki Station is on the Green Line to the ferry port as well as the Blue Line to the Airport, and is located right on the edge of the Plaka.

If you are returning to your original Athens hotel, no problemo... just have them hold your biggie bag in their storage area, usually near reception. Even if you are checking out of your Athens hotel en route to Aegina, and then going to the airport on return to the mainland, most hotels are good with you leaving a bag for a day in their reception at no cost. Athens HOtels are very used to people coming in/out on day trips or overnight trips; I have done this several times and my budget hotels are fine with this. Of course, this big bag doesn't have $$ or electronics; just clothes, books and souvenirs, right?

Thanks! I will check and see whether this is an option at the hotel. I would bring all of my valuables with me.

On a related note, would it be recommended to spend a night on Agistri or Aegina? Or would it be better to just go for a day trip? I have a total of 3 full days in Athens.

Jenny we can help better if you share some key details ... ie, what month is your trip, how long is it, where are you going beside 3 days in athens? (That tells us how important/not important is a beach experience) ... also what day/s of the Week are you talking about, for leaving Athens (because Agistric/Aegina are BIG getaway destinations on weekends for working Athenians). Here are links to Aegina/Agistri that tell about some attractions, because you have not said why you're attracted to them... http://www.greekisland.co.uk/angistri/angistri.html http://www.greekisland.co.uk/aegina/aegina.htm ... and here's a friends GOOD photo album of a day trip to Aegina: https://www.flickr.com/photos/36264706@N03/sets/72157621604646139/detail/ ... really good idea of day-trip experience.

I myself "accidentally" did an overnight in Aegina, because I couldn't get a ferry to Sifnos ... really enjoyed it, low-key and uncrowded midweek in early June, loved the Greek temple, it's not glitzy or ritzy, just a nice little close little isle that Greeks like to zip over to & hang out. Same for Agistri only smaller.
