I am lookng to splashout a bit for a 4-5 night stay over new year.
I stayed at the Sala Prabang in over Xmas in 2005. Its avery nice old French Colonial stone home, with wood floors and cozy rooms, great showers and bathroom, and a easy walk to town, or to the Wats-Temples. Its on the Mekong, and is peaceful, one thing I like as its off the main drag of motos and such. I booked online thru Wiresdestinations.com. $60 | 1
I've stayed at both Sala Luang Prabang and Senesouk. Sala Luang Prabang is perhaps the nicer of the two with respect to location and accommodations, but Senesouk is still very nice and it's the cheaper of the two. | 2
Apsara is awesome if you go for the deluxe upstairs rooms, which are airy and lovely and comfortable. I wish I were back there all the time. But they are a little pricy. | 3
Apsara is bit too modern for my taste. I like simple style...Sala Luang Prabang is very good choice. Senesouk is great location across Wat Sene and watch morning almsgiving. | 4
I've stayed at all three, and consider the Apsara to be head and shoulders above the other two. Nice big, airy rooms, across the street from the Nam Khan, pretty quiet area. | 5
We stayed at the Apsara for 5 nights the end of May this year in an upstairs room. After reading posts on tripadvisor etc., we decided to stay at the Apsara. We very much enjoyed our stay. It is not on a very noisy road, the restaurant is good (try the spicy warm mushroom salad and chicken with cashew nuts), big airy rooms, and the A/C and overhead fan worked. The included continental breakfast is simple but quickly served (baguette, butter, 2 local jams, tea/coffee, fresh fruit). You can order eggs etc. if you want for additional charge. Although restaurant does not have A/C, they did have standing fans which we would just position ourselves and watch the world go by during our leisurely breakfast. We had a balcony but it was frankly too hot so we kept the A/C going to nap and at night. When Tum Tum cooking school cancelled our cooking class at the last minute, they were kind enough to allow us to step into the kitchen to watch our ordered dishes prepared (with english interpretation added). They have a small book exchange, and offer laundry service which we took advantage of. We thought it was a great location, just a very short walk to watch almsgiving in the am. Considering it is an old building, I woudn't call it modern. Simple lines yes, but not "modern" | 6
