Loft, Yangon, locally owned?Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Myanmar
I think I know the answer, but in case my plans can somehow come perfectly together: does anyone know whether the Loft Hotel in Yangon happens to be locally-owned? (We want a nice place in center of town--open to a guesthouse that is locally owned if we can find a fancier one....) Thank you!
ALL hotels in Myanmar are locally owned, mainly by relatives/families/cronies of the previous Military Government especially the Generals. Some have foreign partners (Sule/Hilton) and some have foreign management, but not ownership. | 1
Thanks silverswimmer--as I thought. If you know of a great central guest house let me know. We found a nice one but it's far from where we want to be. | 2
The Chan Myae Guest house on Maha Bandoola Street downtown is not especially fancy and on a side street but is decent and clean with nice people and good breakfast. I have stayed there a few times. It's an 8 floor walkup with office on the 3rd floor as I recall. | 3
Somehow i question whether the OP will downgrade from the 200$ Loft hotel to the simple Chan Myae Guesthouse. On the other hand the chances of a guesthouse being locally owned instead of being part of a business conglomerate connected to the previous government are much higher. She seems to want a fancy guesthouse; not a cheap one,.. well there's a catch-22. | 4
The Savoy, German co-owned and managed (as is their sister hotel Bay View at NB) | 5
Honestly, I think if you're aiming to pay $100+ per night, you're better off just searching the maps of Agoda or Booking.com for the area you want to base in, and reading reviews, cross-referencing with TripAdvisor. You'll get a lot more information that way than posting here. | 6
